THE PEOPLE

People in Leticia are friendly and graceful people, who have enjoyed a fortuitous isolation provided by the vast jungles. Jungles that have kept them free from the political violence that has been part of the history of the rest of the country.

Through centuries, the inhabitants the tri-border region (Brazil, Colombia and Peru) have shared friendships and forged bonds with each other and with newcomers (since ancient times, there have always been newcomers), bonds of congruent interests, commercial bonds, bonds of exchange of knowledge, bonds of kinship, regional bonds woven by the sharing of similar interests, resources, blessings and difficulties.

Leticia is a place where the ancient and the state of the art come together; where ancestral knowledge and scientific research meet. Leticia is a place where populations of more than 23 indigenous ethnic groups are represented, and share with the distinctive populations of three national republics, as well as a myriad of foreign nationals, who - all together, live and work to contribute to a common vision: The opening of trails to futures that will provide their descendents with lives of consequence and contribution, and also preserve the magical and fragile landscapes, the natural treasures of the Great Upper Amazon Basin and the rest of the Amazon – a patrimony of humankind, that the world cannot afford to lose.

Welcome to Leticia, the doorway to the Amazon, its ancient forests and its peoples.
