ACADEMIC
There
is an urgent need for research directed to illuminate the natural processes
of ecosystems and individual species, their relationships, rates of growth,
inventories; as well as the effect that human intervention imposes on
them. The research and understanding of these micro and macro processes
in the Amazon is still in its infancy. This body of research is essential
to guide the design of intelligent strategies that deal with the challenges
that the pressures of human population growth and expanding markets are
imposing on the Amazon.

These
are multidisciplinary programs that serve as a basic contextualization
to candidates with a professional interest in the Amazon region. These
programs count with the support of a consortium of Dutch Universities,
and generate important research work that may - in due time - serve to
guide international and national investment strategies, government policies,
and the construction of autonomy, equity, and viable development alternatives
for the region.

It is our
objective to contribute to a better use and governance of tropical forests
for the benefit of people, conservation and sustainable development. We
aim to achieve this objective through research (knowledge), capacity building
(capacity and organizations) and communication (dialogue and linkage between
national and international debates). During 2006, different activities
were developed in our country programmes that contribute to the achievement
of our objective.
CORPOAMAZONIA
The Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Southern Colombian
