THE
AMAZON –
AN ACUPUNCTURE POINT IN THE HEALING OF THE EARTH
Many
believe, and is subject of debate, that there is a link between the safeguarding
of the ancestral cultures, who have inhabited the Amazon as far back as 8.000
to 10,000 years ago, and the safeguarding of the Amazon’s resilient,
but fragile ecosystems.
Whatever
your opinion on the subject might be, what is certain is that the Amazon
is a hotspot – an acupuncture point – in the great challenge
we face: Slowing down global warming, and forestalling the catastrophic scenarios
that threaten the future of our descendents and our own survival as a species.
It
is also a certainty that the inhabitants of the ancestral forests play a
key role in the safeguarding of the Amazon: Our management strategies or
lack of them, our day-to-day practices, right here in the Amazon, will define
the destiny of the largest tropical forest left in the world.
On
this page, we showcase some organizations, which in some measure, each in
its own way, are working to provide research and alternatives that will bring
about a future that is respectful to the well being and survival of both:
Our people and our forests.
