Air Transport

Two commercial air routes connect the Tri-Border region to the world. On the Colombian side, the daily service Bogotá–Leticia is provided by Aero República and Satena, with a flight time of about one hour and forty-five minutes. In Brazil, the connection Manaus – Tabatinga, takes about one hour and thirty-five minutes, and it’s provided by Rico and Trip. There are chartered flights from Iquitos on smaller aircrafts as well.
Fluvial Transport

The traveller can also reach Leticia, at a slower pace, on the white waters of the Great River: There are two principal modalities: Rápidos (fast boats) and recreos (passenger ships). On a rápido from Iquitos you can make it to Leticia in about twelve hours and from Manaus in about thirty-six hours.

The slower pace of the recreos may provide a glimpse into the customs and lives of the people who reside in the towns and cities along the Amazon River, as this is their principal way of travel when they go to visit family, or when they make their way to a doctor’s appointment. They call it a recreo, because many Brazilian families make of these journeys their holidays.

For those who are not in a rush, the experience of travelling on the Great River is recommended. You will enjoy the river travel, and perhaps make some friends on the journey.
